How to Wear: Checks + Plaids

16 May , 2018

The catwalk may be great for giving us all inspiration, it can sometimes be difficult to wear the trends straight from the designers. As our Top 20 Outerwear Trends for Spring states, checks and plaids are in, big time! We’ve therefore put together ways you can incorporate the trend into your every-day wardrobe, as well as where to buy some of the best checked pieces from the high street as well as from higher end stores. It really is a trend for everyone: every budget, every body type and every style.

1. Coats

As you know here at Season 7 we’re huge on outerwear – it’s our thing so we’ve compiled some of our absolute favourite check coats! This may be a little ‘out-there’ for some people, but wearing a checked coat is the perfect way to make more of a statement. Your outerwear is the first impression others get of your look, so why not make a good one with these checked options.

2. Blazer

The humble blazer can be worn in a variety of scenarios. Whether you’re at work and need to dress up an outfit like the Veronia Beard pink and white piece, which also makes a statement in the more unique colourway. Or if you’re wanting to keep an outfit casual and cool, by pairing your checked blazer with a denim jumpsuit  like Stylenanda. Adding a checked blazer to your wardrobe is the most versatile and cost-effective way of dipping your toes into the trend.

3. Trousers

We also understand that this trend applies to more than your coat or jacket, so we’ve also got some other elements of your wardrobe covered. A classic way to add some checks into your everyday look. If you normally stick to tailored trousers anyway, Acne Studios’ versions are great, adding an element of smart-cool to your look. Or if you want to keep it a little more unique opt for a bell bottom version like Unique 21 or go for the ultimate comfort trouser with Tibi’s joggers.

4. Skirts

As the weather is starting to warm up, a checked skirt will be the perfect way to nail the trend whilst also getting to finally show a little more skin. Vivienne Westwood’s offering is great for when the weather is still a little unpredictable – as we know it to be in London – it’ll look great with tights or bare legs. Whilst Mango provide a great affordable version if you want to try the trend before investing into it.

5. Full Suit

Perhaps you work in an environment where a full suit is necessary, but you want to stand out from the sea of black two pieces? If that’s the case, then a checked suit is perfect for you. Whistles keep it very classic in their brown version, whereas Gabriela Hearst adds a pop of colour in their serious dark blue with playful white checks. If you know you love the trend and want to fully immerse your wardrobe this is the way to go. You can even wear the jacket and trousers as separates for an added bonus.
